Dedication of the new Dorothy T. Height Library

Ward 7 Arts collaborative was proud to be present at the dedication on 6, May 2011 of the new Dorothy T. Height (formally Benning) Library. The bright sunny Friday hosted our Mayor Vince Gray, Council member Yvette Alexander, Ward 4 Council member  Bowser, Chief Librarian Jennifer Cooper and Dr. Thelma Daley the vice chair of the National Council of Negro Women, numerous ANCs and community leaders to witness this renaming and art presentation. This honor also highlighted our local artist Rik Freeman and Life Pieces to Masterpieces mural installation.

Ward 7 Arts Collaborative worked very closely with the library and DCCAH for over four years to conceive and complete this idea. These Art projects from our community are visual learning outcomes. This sets a new tone for community public art. Ward 7 Arts Collaborative’s mission is to cultivate community arts stewardship. We invite you to check it out.
